"I Live For This"

Isn’t that the Major League Baseball’s slogan these days? It’s true, I do live for this. The start of baseball season, Spring, going into Summer…it’s a glorious time of the year for me. I do enjoy every season as it comes though. When Fall starts I’ll tell you it’s my favorite season. But baseball season brings so much with it for me, most importantly, baseball games. Hot Dogs. Beer. Peanuts. Cotton candy. Here’s my Bubba at the game with me. (He’s taking after his mommy with the whole baseball thing).

My Bubba

I'm too cool with my free floppy hat

"Ohhhh a beer cap, never seen one of these lying around the apartment before" (sure)

Bubba loves riding the trolley

The Highly-Flammable Blanket of Kitch (hereinafter “THFBoK”)

I’ve really been itching to crochet something lately. I’ve also really been needing to do some serious stash-busting. And yes, that is Red Hart Super Saver in all its glory sitting on my desk. Isn’t that red fabulous? For the life of me cannot remember why I purchased that, and I should really be ashamed. Not only is it what it is (Red Hart Super Saver), but that color! What did I originally intend on making with that?!?! Anyways, it’s now part of my THFBoK.

Last night I was feeling kinda blue, not totally sure why, but I was. Perhaps it is a hormonally induced slight depression. But anyways, I needed to work on something and I came up with THFBoK. I just sat there all night making up these little squares and stacking them neatly on top of each other on the couch. My daughter comes out of her room, sees my little stack of acrylic, and starts laughing “hahaha you are on crack”. She then went on to doing an imitation of what appeared to be a crack-head crocheting.

I have a feeling this blog is going to end up being about how a teen daughter abuses her dorky mom.

What, exactly, do you mean by that?

"Ethnically-confused, ghetto-dwelling white girl who knits too much"

While it's pretty self-explanatory to me, it may not be to someone who doesn't know me well. Let's break it down. "Ethnically-confused". That means that I think I'm Mexican. I really do. I'm as white as they come really, but when I was about a year old and my mother divorced her first husband (my real father) and had to rejoin the work-force. In doing that I was placed in a daycare where the provider only spoke Spanish, therefore Spanish was really my first language. Luckily my mom studied Spanish in college and was able to communicate with me. I really didn't start speaking English until I entered Kindergarten. Then my mom proceeds to marry a Mexican man (husband #2, who I call father) and a year later we move from Newport Beach, CA to Tijuana. Talk about culture shock. At least for my mother. I was a happy camper. I was finally home. I completed all my elementary school in Tijuana, speaking only Spanish, and lived in Tijuana until the age of 15. As you can see, I'm a little ethnically-confused.

"Ghetto-dwelling". Well, that just means I live in the ghetto. It's the closest thing I have to Tijuana living here. I need to have a 7-11 and a Mexican market very close by. I also like to have a Mexican bakery in the area, and I currently have two walking distance from my home. Bliss. I also need easily accessible 99 cent stores. And fast food restaurants. And taco shops. I would never, ever survive in the burbs.

"White girl". Yeah, I'm white. Scary white. My teen daughter somtimes looks at me, and says (in a kinda nasty way if you ask me) "You are so white".

"Who knits too much". I knit too much.

It's been a while

I really need to get with it on the blogging! As you can see by the picture, I’ve been having way to much fun. Lots going on with the family and such. Not so much going on with the knitting. Since I last posted something I have probably started 5 new projects and not finished one except for a pair of socks. My FIRST pair of socks. So at least that’s pretty significant. I promise myself to blog regularly, it’s a promise just to me of course, ‘cause right now I’m probably the only one who cares ha ha.

What’s the deal with the picture? My first trip to Vegas last week. A sad statement for someone who has lived in So Cal all her life and is currently 33. My man was kind enough to take me.

The Cute Couple, awwww

I think he likes boobies
This is just a sampling of pics of course, there is a beer in my hand in every one of them.

Movie Night

No exciting knitting news here, but my knitpicks order should be in my mailbox soon! I will then cast on and share with you.

This entry is about Movie Night. My man and I have Movie Night once a week (or at least we try), just the two of us, and we alternate movies. By the picture above you can guess whose turn it was. If you can’t, it was his. Not mine. Last time I chose P.S. I Love You, which was very cute. I will also add that my man actually liked the last movie, so it shouldn’t be counted against me as “my choice”, and it should only be counted as “my choice” if he doesn’t like it, I think that would be fair, because I will never like any of his choices, but there is a good chance he will like mine, but I digress, enough of the politics between my man and me.

Back to the movie. Even if YOUR man insists…DON’T DO IT. Oh Lord. Seriously, and I really mean it, this has been the worse movie I have ever endured in its entirety. I’m sure I’ve seen worse…but I left the theater, turned off the TV, fell asleep, whatever. I don’t even know where to start with this, because I’m not a movie critic, and don’t know all the movie critiquing lingo, but it’s bad. It’s cheesy, has absolutely no plot, not even a small, underlying story in the background, and the acting was horrendous. Also, it is unnecessarily disgusting, with some scenes that were just inappropriate for a mother to see. If you are forced to see this, and you are a mother, you will know what I’m talking about.

My next pick? The Kite Runner (muuua ha ha haaaaaa). He’s going to hate it! Unfortunately, I got the last two picks before, so he still has the next one. And he already told me which one it is. Clover Fields, something like that. I’m sure I’ll hate it. Luckily tomorrow we are taking our respective offspring to see VeggieTales (and that doesn’t count), so I’ll have a brief movie respite.

Keep knitting my friends and heed my warning…do not see this film.

Happy New Year

What better way to bring in the new year! Knitting, martini, and my two favorite men. Here’s one of them:

And that is not a cosmo, it’s a watermelon martini – yum. Head to your nearest BevMo and pic up this delight. It’s very watermelony (as opposed to that jolly rancher quality some of these drinks have). As you can see by the amount left, I had a pretty good time.

As for progress – here it is…

cropped cardi and the beginnings of a booga bag. I have never knit Noro before, and I love it, pieces of grass and all! I’m trying to think of all the things I can make with it….hummm.

Weekend in review

And oh what a glorious weekend it was...
Being the single mom that I am, I rarely get to have a completely lazy weekend, but also being the single mom that I am, I occasionally get to pawn off my son to the other parental unit. First, I was supposed to finally make sense of my bedroom since I moved (about 6 weeks ago). As you can see by the before picture here, my room is in desperate need of help...I was hoping to have an after picture this weekend also, but I don't, but I will some day, soon.

After attempting to organize the above mess, I decided to go to the yarn store and other shopping instead

This is when the fun started. After the yarn store, took a trip to Costco to get some stuff (and see my man, who works there), then some more shopping with my daughter and best friend at the mall (Sephora!). Now, I mentioned that my son was with his father (and my daughter is a teenager) so this meant that I was really free to do anything I wanted. From this point on (Saturday night) I have done nothing but sit on my man's couch, knit, drink, watch TV, and well, other fun stuff you do when your children are not around (blush), until about 2 hours ago, where I finally had to make an appearance at the office, for a few hours.

So what did I acomplish? Made a pretty good dent in the Cropped Cardigan (Vouge Knitting, Fall 2007) and started the Booga Bag in the Noro I picked up on Saturday. Pictures to come.

As today is New Years Eve, I plan on doing more sitting around on my man's couch and more knitting, while he watches Football (there is no talking during Football), and we both drink until we just crawl into bed...now THAT is a fun New Years Eve my friends. Ya'll have a safe one!
